With the passing of HB 2223, all institutions across Texas are being asked to implement developmental courses using a co-requisite model. Managing this change can be exciting and challenging. We have the opportunity to provide our students with an alternative path to success. This pre-conference institute will discuss the creation, design, and implementation of the co-requisite model at the University of Texas as El Paso including administrative and collaborative initiatives.​

The Texas Workforce Commission Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) department is working closely with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and The Texas Pathways Project to support strategies and services for lower skilled students entering higher education to attain credentials. This workshop will review strategies and barriers to aligning adult education programs with college credit programs. This workshop is open to all and groups are encouraged to attend with representatives from the adult education and/or developmental education.

Title: What Do Football Coaches and Great Teachers have in Common? They both know how to Mentor Students.

One of my students said, “I am motivated to learn and will be able to put myself together… I need a little push to help me get there.” Is there value in mentoring students? Can mentoring help academically underprepared students become resilient and succeed academically? This active session will explore the different kinds and best practices of mentoring and the pilot mentoring of NCBO students at Blinn College. Attendees will have access to handouts, share their mentoring experiences and win door prizes.
