Essie Childers

Professor Essie Childers began her career as a high school business teacher in Austin, Texas. While completing her Masters at the University of Texas at Tyler, she substituted on the elementary, middle and high school levels. She has taught for 31 years mentoring and encouraging students to visualize success in order to reach their academic and personal goals.

For the past 10 years, Essie has developed a strong track record of teaching first-year students through the Learning Frameworks course, Education 1300, and Integrated Reading and Writing at Blinn College in Bryan, Texas.  

Essie is the immediate past President of the Texas Community College Teachers Association comprised of over 6,000 teachers and administrators in the state of Texas,  a 2018 Distinguished Alumni from Longview Independent School District, a 2017 Carol Dochen Developmental Educator of the year recipient, a 2014 recipient of CRLA’s Distinguished Teaching Award, a 2014 Outstanding Service Award from Blinn Professional Association, the 2013 On Course Ambassador of the Year Award, Faculty Partner for Cengage Learning and a volunteer consultant for the American Association for Adjunct Educators. Additionally, Essie serves on the QEP Development Team at Blinn College and is a Senior Fellow of the Blinn College FutureWorks Academy.

 

Essie has presented at numerous conferences such as, TCCTA, NADE, On Course, Cengage, NISOD, CRLA, CASP and AAAE. In 2013, Essie published her first book, Packing Tools for Success Beyond Middle School and became the founding director of the Young Ladies Success Summit.

 

When Essie is not teaching, mentoring students, or presenting at professional conferences throughout the United States, she enjoys watching old movies, traveling, rating restaurants and enjoying her grandchildren. She is a graduate of The University of Texas at Tyler, Abilene Christian University, and Walden University recently completing a Graduate Certificate in Adult Learning.
